And, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of Heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
–William Shakespeare, “Romeo and Juliet”

The snowflake, which was once very much a discernible subsystem of the universe, now dissolves into the larger system which once held it. Though it is no longer present as a distinct subsystem, its essence is somehow present, and will remain so. It floats in Tumbolia, along with hiccups that are not being hiccupped and characters in stories that are not being read. –Douglas Hofstader

Thanks so much for posting about Nigel.
For all those who knew him, he was such a large presence. A gentle giant, with such a great personality and demeanor, he backed it all up with his attitude as needed.
I'm partial I know, but I could not be happier to have had Nigel in my life. From his kittenhood, rescued off the streets of Baltimore, his temporary name was either 'Mint' or 'Condition' as he and his sister Sophie were rescued by someone who found them both in a well taken care of mint condition historical car. Taking charge of his new digs and making sure all of the other cats that we have (and have had) all got the proper training. And, of course, he was always trying to figure out how to best hunt, harvest and c onsume copious amounts of tuna.
I've also never known another cat like him. It's as if he and I imprinted on each other -- we were such a large part of each other. I'm just fortunate that he was able to share his life with me, Debbie and the other kitties.
Taken far too soon, I know he's at peace now and in a much better place. Rest in peace, Big Bud.
Oh no! Debbie and Thomas, I'm so sorry!
