HALLELUJAH!

Sunday morning, 9am. I am asleep (of course!), happily tucked beneath my duvet with at least one snoozing cat astride me. It doesn’t last. Why? I think y’all know the chorus by now: it’s the sound of one of my upstairs neighbors, D—, screaming “HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! OHHHH GLORY! HALLELUJAH! THANK YOU, JESUS! THANK YOU, JESUS! HALLELUJAH!” This took place in recurring spurts between 9–10:30am, when I finally rolled out of bed (and no, I really didn’t get to sleep during that time, courtesy of the screams). Just another day in my lovely home.

Yesterday I was bitten by something—I don’t know what—and the pain was so intense, it literally caused me to stagger into a tree and fear that I was about to drop dead, a la Steve Irwin and his stingray barb. Half of my hand swelled up and it took a while for the pain and swelling to subside. No death, though. At night, when I was reading in bed, my eyes were persistently foggy for no good reason, and again, I was paranoid that the bite was going to cause imminent blindness. I really, honestly feared that I was going to wake up blind on Sunday morning. It didn’t happen, thankfully...so...HALLELUJAH! OH GLORY! THANK YOU JESUS HALLELUJAH!

song heard most recently before posting: Mimi’s Heart Muted—Yoko K.
