40 years

Quite astoundingly, today marks a whopping 40 years since Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated. And equality-wise, how far have we come since then? Some progress has been made, to be sure, but we still have a long way to go. Not just in terms of chipping away the barriers between blacks and whites but also between different religions (or lack thereof; there is still a tremendous amount of prejudice against atheists), nationalities, and ethnicities. I’ll never understand why equality is such a foreign concept to so many people. I’m not looking for a bland utopia—just a level playing field.
