rest in peace, Gabby

Gabby Boyer
October 1995 – December 8, 2009

My sister Kristen adopted Gabby when she was a kitten, but after about 2 1/2 years she wound up living with our mom. This is because she grew to hate Kristen’s boyfriend (turned husband) and his dog. Gabby could be a bit high strung and nervous and just didn't mix well with Bryan and Pepper. With Mom she had a long and very happy life.

I have to thank Gabby for being the reason I now love cats. I was raised with dogs and growing up I really had no contact with, or interest in, cats. I was 21 when Gabby entered my life and I was immediately smitten. She really paved the way for me to adopt my own cats two years later, and in the interim, she worked the same magic on Mom. She, too, had never been a cat person, yet eight months after Gabby arrived, there Mom was, adopting Cleo.

So thank you, Gabby, for showing us the error of our ways and helping us realize that cats can be just awesome as dogs. You were a fabulous ambassador for felines everywhere.

Sharing a window with my cat Shoah (d. June 2001).

Lounging in a window. She did so love the sun!

With Pepper, before she grew to hate her.

With her sister Cleo, who passed away six months ago.

Rest in peace, Gabby. I hope you’re now reunited with Cleo and living a fantastic life in cat heaven with lots of catnip carrots by your side.

Man, another kitty gone. But it sounds like she had a wonderful life. May she be having a grand time in The Great Beyond for forevermore.

Thanks, Thomas!

This has been a terrible year for pet loss: three in my family alone, not to mention how many friends have lost pets this year.
