on the fringe

Excellent!

I just learned that DC is just about to launch its very own fringe festival! In 2003 I attended an event at the granddaddy of all fringe festivals, the Edinburgh Fringe. I would’ve loved to have attended more Fringe events, but time was limited, and I already had tickets for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an Edinburgh International Festival play, and an Edinburgh Book Festival poetry reading (I was also hot to trot for a French film playing at the Edinburgh Film Festival, but I couldn’t make it to either showing; I was fortunately able to score the film on DVD at a later date). I’m so excited that DC is throwing its hat into the fringe fray. I’ve got my must-see selections narrowed down to five events, and will try to whittle them even further, simply because of a lack of time. But it’s going to be hard!

This week I’ve gotten sucked into watching VH1’s World Series of Pop Culture (which I’d love to boycott, since they rejected my friends and me when we auditioned for the show in April), as well as the latest entry in their I Love the… series, I Love the ’70s, Part II. I’ve got so much freelancing to do this week, but I just can’t resist spending at least one hour each night with my holy trinity of TV boyfriends—those purveyors of gorgeous, buttery snark: Michael Ian Black, Hal Sparks, and Mo Rocca. Please, guys, won’t one of you marry me? Or at least be my friend?
